One of West Africa's most powerful forest kingdoms, ruled by the sacred Oba from Benin City. Its guild of brass casters recorded the court's history in metal, the works the world now calls the Benin Bronzes. The kingdom fell to a British expedition in 1897, yet the Oba reigns in the city to this day.
